If you were to pick the top three, most culture-rich places to visit in India, most would recommend you explore the cities of the Golden Triangle. To get a true flavor for India and all that it has to offer, you need to visit the cities of Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra. Here are some of the reasons why.

When you fly into the capital of India, you are offered an array of culture that is rich in political, religious, and social history. Whether you are visiting museums like the Archaeological Museum, the Indian War Memorial Museum in historic Red Fort, or the National Gallery of Modern Art near India Gate, you will get to witness elaborate displays of India’s amazing history and culture. Witnessing indoor displays is one way to bask in Delhi’s greatness, but outside landmarks are just as stunning, if not more so. Delhi harbors several architectural masterpieces including one of the largest mosques in India, Humayun’s Tomb. Here you will also find elaborate structures such as Qutub Minar, the Akshardham Temple, and the Parliament of India. But if you are looking for more entertainment and leisure activities, look no further than Delhi’s streets. With its pubs, recreational centers, world-class multiplexes, auditoriums featuring a variety of shows, and an electric nightlife, you’ll never be at a loss for things to do. Delhi’s tourism page provides a wonderful overview of everything the city has to offer.

Jaipur, otherwise known as “the Pink City,” was the first planned city of India. It used to serve as the royal capital, which accounts for its extraordinary opulence. Majestic palaces and robust fortresses are displayed throughout, as are the beautiful gardens that lay themselves before tourists’ feet. A commercial center, Jaipur is known for its amazing crafts, jewelry, and local cuisine laid out through a series of festivals and celebrations. The heritage of the city is rich, even garnering a spot in Time Magazine’s travel section, in an article highlighting several of the city’s attractions including walking tours provided by the Jaipur Virasat heritage foundation. For a taste of royalty, and a chance to ride on the back of an elephant in search of forts at the very edge of the desert, Jaipur is a wonderful place to visit.

If you’ve seen nothing else from India, you’ve probably seen pictures of one of the eight wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal. In perhaps the most elaborate, romantic display of love ever shown, Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal mausoleum to honor his wife. With its breathtaking views both during the day and at night, the Taj Mahal is Agra’s largest tourist draw, although it’s not the only reason to come. Agra is actually home to a total of three World Heritage Sites: the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, and Fatehpur Sikri. The Red Fort is built of red sandstone and white marble. The brainchild of Akbar, it houses several palaces, mosques and other historical buildings. Not far from the Red Fort lies the ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri. Built in the mid 1500′s as a co-capitol to Agra, it was subsequently deserted when the water system couldn’t sustain its residents. With its amazing architecture, it is a beautiful place to tour as are the other great sites of Agra.

The Golden Triangle is a wonderful way to sample the precious jewels of India. From the streets of India’s capital to the sights of Jaipur and Agra, your trip to India will be one that you remember for a lifetime.
